Sports and exercise have always been an important part of my life – swimming, weight lifting, rowing, etc. I found IHP when rehabbing an injury and it was love at first class. IHP has given me so much – community, a tough in the best way workout, confidence, and a creative outlet – I knew I needed to share it with others. I strive to inspire people of all abilities to love these classes and love movement in general.
Swimming has always been my passion. I started competing when I was 5 years old and have enjoyed the sport through out my life. While a shoulder injury means I no longer compete, swimming will always be something I do for fun and exercise. In college I took up weight lifting and competitive rowing. I am also an equestrian which lead me to my first career – practicing veterinary medicine. My background in sports and science/medicine come together well in teaching IHP.
IHP found me in Seattle at a hot yoga studio down the street from my new home. I was looking for a great workout that was also low stress on my joints. One class and I was hooked. For years I crafted my own versions of IHP classes to do when I traveled. It is a perfect portable workout for whatever my location and was fun to create unique workouts within a given framework. Finally I jumped in and signed up for teacher training. IHP is something I knew I wanted to share with others.

In IHP there is always something you can do – modifications are never less than. Start with the foundational moves – expand from there. For the beginners I focus on getting the basics correct. These cues continue to apply as the moves level up to more advanced variations. Cheer for and encourage the beginners on their form and persistence at mastering the moves and push and challenge the regulars with variations. This lets us offer a cohesive class that works for everyone’s ability.
Recognizing everyone as they come through the door. Simply saying hello I’m glad you are here or chatting further about their day, Seeing everyone helps them feel that they belong. Class starts and we are moving together setting the tone. From there referring to the class as a team and taking the time to high five each other after a tough set. This builds the mindset that we are in this as one and stronger together.
For myself I am proud of getting out of my introvert comfort zone and meeting so many amazing, beautiful humans. As for those amazing humans, it brings me joy to have them say how much they enjoy my classes, particularly someone who is new to the fitness world. Helping them see how fun and rewarding these classes are, watching their love for IHP grow is heartwarming. And when a students brings a friend, what a feeling knowing that we have passed our love of fitness on to others.
